What This Video Shows

A full written description of the demonstration, so the content is readable without playing the video.

This video demonstrates the copper-to-green colour shift of SJH OVI ink: copper-gold and green alternate with viewing angle with rich, saturated appearance - for cigarette packs, wine labels and cards.

1. Front view: copper-gold hue

The video shows the copper-gold hue from the front. Copper-gold (red-gold leaning) is one of the most common starting hues in the OVI family and is widely used in the brand colour areas of cigarette packs and wine labels, because it already carries a metallic, premium feel that gains further depth with an angle-dependent shift.

2. Oblique view: switching to green

At an oblique angle the copper-gold switches to green. A single OVI system can be designed with several hue pairs (gold-to-green, gold-to-red, purple-to-gold and more); which pair to choose depends on the customer brand colour, substrate and visual design. Confirming with a physical proof at different angles is recommended.

3. Colour saturation and printing compatibility

The video shows the saturation of this effect. Copper-to-green is fairly sensitive to substrate and process: dark substrates enhance the contrast of the shift, while light or highly reflective substrates can weaken the visual impact. On applications with an existing base design, such as cigarette packs and wine labels, the position of the OVI area is normally planned together with the layout.

Key Points

Hue pair Copper-to-green (the same system also offers gold-to-green, gold-to-red, purple-to-gold and others)
Substrate Dark substrates enhance contrast; light or reflective substrates may weaken it
Layout Plan the OVI area together with the packaging layout
Typical use Cigarette packs, wine labels, cards and premium brand packaging security

Choosing an OVI is not just choosing a colour - it is choosing the combination of hue pair, substrate and layout placement. The same copper-to-green ink printed on a dark versus a light substrate differs markedly in impact, and whether the OVI area sits on the brand logo or in a separate icon zone changes both security strength and design feel. These are best assessed at the proofing stage against the actual layout; we can supply comparison proofs on different substrates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Selection, detection, printing and ordering — answered.

Copper-to-green or gold-to-green - how do I choose?
You are choosing more than a colour: it is the combination of hue pair, substrate and layout placement. The same system also offers gold-to-red, purple-to-gold and others. Copper-to-green has a warmer tone closer to traditional gold and fits wine label and cigarette pack conventions, while gold-to-green gives sharper contrast and reads more prominently.
Does substrate lightness affect the OVI effect much?
Very much. Dark substrates enhance contrast, while light or reflective substrates may weaken it. The same copper-to-green ink printed on dark versus light stock differs markedly in impact, so the base print or area placement may need adjusting.
Where should the OVI area sit in the layout?
Plan it together with the packaging layout. On the brand logo versus a separate icon zone changes both security strength and design feel: the logo area has high exposure and established public checking habits, while a separate zone is easier to lay out and standardise across product ranges.
Which other hue pairs are available in the same system?
Besides copper-to-green there are gold-to-green, gold-to-red and purple-to-gold. Each has different recognition characteristics and best-fit scenarios; choose against the brand colour and inspection environment, and comparison proofs on different substrates are available.
