UV curing ink: the value is being dry the moment it is printed
This category holds general-purpose and specialty inks outside the five security and packaging lines; the main product is UV curing ink. Its value is not colour but instant drying: UV light cures the film immediately, the system contains virtually no volatile solvent, and printed sheets go straight into stacking, die-cutting or lamination without a drying window. For short-run fast-turnaround work and high-speed lines, that difference directly determines throughput.
Three versions are available — UV offset, UV screen and UV flexo — for paper, plastic (PVC/PC/PET/PP, depending on surface treatment), metal and glass. Curing depends on equipment match: mercury lamps and LED-UV differ in wavelength and energy density, so the ink system must correspond to the lamp, and moving the same ink to different equipment usually requires reformulation. Under-curing shows up as poor adhesion, residual odour and ink loss in downstream processes — problems that may not be visible on the day of printing but surface at die-cutting or lamination.
This series also acts as a security carrier: UV fluorescent, thermochromic and color-shifting effects can all be built into a UV system, so decoration and security are printed in one pass. Please provide the substrate and the actual curing equipment parameters (lamp type, wavelength, line speed). We assess compatibility before proofing, so a proof that cures on one press does not fail on the production line.
Frequently Asked Questions
Selection, detection, printing and ordering — answered.
What is the main difference between UV ink and conventional ink?
The curing mechanism. UV ink cures instantly under ultraviolet light, contains virtually no volatile solvent, and allows immediate stacking, die-cutting and lamination — suited to high-speed and short-run fast-turnaround work. Conventional inks dry by solvent or water evaporation and oxidation, need a drying window, and emit more VOC. A cured UV film offers firm adhesion, high gloss and resistance to abrasion and solvents.
Can the same UV ink run on both LED-UV and mercury lamps?
Usually not directly. LED-UV and mercury lamps differ in wavelength and energy density, so the photoinitiator system must match the lamp. Moving the same ink to different equipment generally requires reformulation; otherwise you see surface cure without through-cure, poor adhesion or residual odour. Please state lamp type, wavelength and line speed when ordering.
How can I tell whether UV ink is fully cured?
Three signals: adhesion (does it rub off under a fingernail or tape test), odour (residual smell indicates under-curing), and downstream behaviour (ink loss or mottling at die-cutting, lamination or hot stamping). Under-curing is often invisible on the day of printing and only appears later, so please supply equipment parameters along with the sample.
Can decoration and security be printed in a single pass?
Yes. UV fluorescent, thermochromic and color-shifting effects can all be built into a UV system, so decoration and security are applied in one pass and process steps are reduced. Curing parameters and adhesion must be re-validated once a security function is added, so a complete proof is recommended before finalising.
