What is IR excitation ink?
Also called infrared ink, IR security ink or up-conversion ink. It emits visible fluorescence when excited by infrared light while remaining completely invisible to the naked eye, so it requires dedicated IR detection equipment. It does not disturb the visible printed image and offers a very high level of protection.
How does IR excitation ink differ from ordinary UV fluorescent ink?
The difference is concealment tier and detection threshold. UV invisible ink can be checked with a banknote detector or UV torch — consumer level. IR excitation ink needs an IR source plus visible-light viewing equipment — professional level, hence the higher protection grade.
How is IR excitation ink verified?
With an IR excitation source combined with a visible-light viewing device (a dedicated detector). Illumination reveals the fluorescence quickly and accurately.
Can it be combined with UV invisible ink?
Yes, and it is recommended. The pair forms a dual-channel system: the UV channel for fast consumer-level checks, the IR channel for professional verification. The excitation band can also be customised to set multiple security tiers.
Where is IR excitation ink mainly used?
